Work alongside our Senior Systems Engineer on the design, installation, configuration and support of connectivity, networking, AV/IT and automation systems for superyachts, commercial vessels, rural sites and enterprise customers. You will get hands-on with Starlink, Peplink, Ubiquiti, Axis and Crestron kit from day one, on vessels and sites in New Zealand and, from time to time, overseas.
GMTS is a five-person team. Everyone wears more than one hat, priorities move with customer needs, and your work has a direct effect on how the business runs and grows. If you want breadth, responsibility early, and a clear path into senior engineering or project work, this is that role.
What you will do
- Install and commission marine networking (Peplink, Ubiquiti, Starlink), CCTV (Axis, Milestone), AV and Crestron automation: cable terminations, rack builds, switches, access points, security appliances, first tests and fault-finding
- Configure routing, VLANs, firewall rules and QoS; set up NMEA data integration with marine electronics; keep firmware and software current
- Respond to support cases from customers and dealers, on site and remotely; log every case; escalate when needed
- Produce network diagrams, wiring schematics, IP schemes, equipment lists, handover documentation and user guides; help prepare proposals and quotes
- Take part in vessel installations and upgrades, regionally and internationally, coordinating with crew, contractors and project managers
- Pursue vendor training and certifications (Peplink, Ubiquiti, Crestron and others) and keep up with marine technology
- Pitch in across the business: kit prep and shipments, warehouse and inventory, phones, demos, trade shows and whatever the week needs
What we are looking for
- A working grasp of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing)
- Hands-on technical aptitude, careful and accurate, with good written and spoken communication
- Comfortable working independently and in a small team; flexible when priorities change
- Willing to travel (domestic and international) and fit for marine installation work: lifting up to 25 kg, ladders, confined spaces, working on vessels
- Valid NZ driver’s licence; eligible to work in New Zealand
- Self-motivated and keen to learn
Nice to have
- Diploma or degree in IT, networking or electronics
- Experience with Peplink, Ubiquiti or similar; AV or automation (Crestron, Control4); marine electronics and NMEA
- Basic scripting; diagramming tools such as Visio or Lucidchart
- Certifications such as CCNA or Ubiquiti; previous small-business or start-up experience
The practical bits
- Full-time, permanent, based at our Hobsonville, Auckland office and workshop
- 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday within 07:00 to 17:00 operating hours, with flexibility for project work
- Regular domestic travel and occasional international travel
- Some work from home by arrangement
- Reports to the Senior Systems Engineer; regular check-ins, structured reviews at six and twelve months, and a defined pathway toward Senior Systems Engineer, Project Manager or a specialist networking, automation or marine systems role
